When every click takes too long, replacing the whole computer can feel like the only option. Often the real cause is a failing drive, insufficient memory, overheating or too many background tasks.
Notice when it became slow
A gradual decline may point to storage, software or heat. A sudden change deserves more attention: a failed update, unwanted software or a degrading drive can create both performance and data-loss risks.
Check the basics
- Is the main drive nearly full?
- Does the computer become unusually hot or loud?
- Did the slowdown begin after installing an application or update?
- Are browser pop-ups or unexpected security warnings appearing?
- Is only the internet slow, or is the entire computer affected?
Upgrades that can make sense
Replacing an older hard drive with an SSD can dramatically improve a suitable system. Additional memory may help with many browser tabs, accounting software or larger files. Cleaning the cooling system can restore stable performance when heat is forcing the processor to slow down.
Back up before experimenting
If the computer contains important photos, business documents or accounting data, secure a backup before running aggressive cleanup tools or attempting a major update.
