Starlink can be transformative where wired options are limited, but reliable service depends on more than putting the dish outside and connecting the app.
Clear sky matters most
Even brief obstructions can interrupt video calls, remote access and payment systems. The dish needs a wide, durable view of the sky—not merely a spot where it can see some sky today. Consider future tree growth, snow accumulation and safe access for maintenance.
Plan the cable route before mounting
A clean installation protects the cable from sharp bends, doors, animals and weather. Exterior penetrations should be placed carefully and sealed appropriately. The router also needs a dry, ventilated location with dependable power.
The included router may not cover the whole property
For a larger home, shop, lodge or farm, use a network designed around the actual buildings. Wired access points are ideal where cabling is practical. A point-to-point bridge can connect a detached building without paying for a second internet service.
Think about outages
A UPS can keep the Starlink equipment and network online during short power interruptions. Businesses that cannot lose connectivity may also benefit from LTE failover configured to switch automatically.
